Write a guide with Eva
The guide is the list of questions the AI interviewer asks (or that you ask, in a human interview). The screener decides who gets in.
Eva's first draft
When you start a study from a question, Eva writes:
- a title,
- about five open, non-leading questions, each with one follow-up for when an answer is thin,
- one or two screener questions.
The card is called Interview guide for AI interviews and Discussion guide for human interviews. Website surveys have no guide: you write a brief and the AI chats from it (see Study types).
Edit the guide
- Click Edit on the guide card.
- Change any Question, and its Follow-up if the answer is thin.
- Use Add question or Remove question. A guide needs at least one question.
- For AI interviews, use On-screen question after this to add a rating, NPS or choice question at that point.
Limits: up to 30 questions, up to 5 follow-ups each, up to 20 on-screen questions and up to 10 things to show.
Tips for good questions
- Ask about something that happened: "Tell me about the last time you…" beats "Would you…?".
- One idea per question.
- Don't name the answer you hope for.
- Keep the guide short. The AI follows up on its own; five strong questions fill a 30-minute interview.
Edit the screener
The screener runs before anyone is invited to the interview.
- Up to 15 questions: single choice, checkboxes, short text or paragraph.
- Mark each option Qualifies, Disqualifies or Doesn't matter.
- Optionally add an AI condition in plain words. Answers are then held for a check instead of being accepted straight away.
Anyone who picks a disqualifying option is told it isn't a match, and can try again after 24 hours. Studies that recruit from our panel need at least one screener question.
Pilot it
Before you launch, click Run a pilot first to take the interview yourself. Nothing in a pilot is counted, paid or shown in the study report.
In a Video + screen share study the pilot asks for your camera and a window to share first, just like the participant's room, so you can check what gets recorded. Both are optional in a pilot, and the recordings stay with the pilot: they never appear in the study report, clips or reels.
When you click End pilot, Eva reviews the guide and lists suggested fixes. Click Apply fix on the ones you want. Then Run it again, Edit guide, or go Back to the draft.
Ask Eva to change it
From a chat, you can ask Eva to edit a draft study's guide or screener, for example "Make question 3 less leading" or "Only let in people who cancelled in the last 3 months." See What Eva can do.
